Which NFL Teams Have had the Best Season Records Throughout History?

The team to have had the best regular season throughout history without winning the Super Bowl was the New England Patriots in 2007. They achieved a remarkable 16-0 that year. Ultimately, they lost to the New York Giants.

The runner-up: The Miami Dolphins

The Patriots may have had the most wins in a regular NFL season, but it’s only a little bit. The Miami Dolphins recorded an almost equally impressive 14-0 back in 1972.

Winning Percentage Ranking by all Time

The NFL team with the second-highest winning percentage ever in a regular season is the Green Bay Packers. They have the second-highest NFL win totals during the National Football League regular season. They won 782 games, which is over 57% of all games. The Houston Texans have the lowest winning percentage of all time, with 139 games won.

The New York Giants are third, with 706 games won in the regular season.

The Leader

The Chicago Bears have recorded the most wins and the most ties and have played the highest number of games in history. They are also one of just two existing charter members of the NFL, founded in 1920. The other existing charter member is the Arizona Cardinals.

The Bears had won 783 games, tied 42, and played a total of 1,435 games at the close of the 2021 season.

Most-watched Teams

The Dallas Cowboys may be relatively low in the ranks, having won a total of 538 games, but they might be the team to draw the biggest crowds. In 2021, they attracted 93,421 spectators, which is over 15,000 more than the Packers, the second most-watched team.

The Worst NFL Season Ever?

The Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions had the worst seasons ever with zero wins: in 2008 and 2017, respectively. They are not the only teams in history to have gone whole seasons without a single win. Others include the Baltimore Colts in the 1982 season, the Dallas Cowboys in 1960, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1976.

Worst Teams to Make NFL Playoffs

The teams with the worst record in history that still made the playoffs are the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Football Team, respectively, in 2010 and 2020. Both teams went 7-9.

Team That Went the Longest Without Making the Playoffs

In other words, which team had the longest active NFL playoff absence? That would currently be the New York Jets. They have not made the playoffs in 11 seasons. However, another team has gone even longer without making the playoffs. That dubious honour goes to the New Orleans Saints, who failed to make the playoffs for two whole decades (between 1967 and 1987).

Top Team That Didn’t Make the Playoffs

The Baltimore Colts achieved 11-1-2 in the regular 1967 season, which was the top record. Despite that, they didn’t make the playoffs.

More recently, the honour has been shared by the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. The Dolphins won 10-6 in 2020, and the Patriots won 11-5 in 2008. Neither team made the playoffs.
